Vertical Machining Centers

Mazak's Vertical Machining Centers serve the full spectrum of industries, from subcontract to aerospace.

Vertical machining or vertical milling uses a vertically oriented spindle and rotary cutters to remove metal from a workpiece. Harnessing over 40 years of experience in building milling centers, Mazak's vertical machines are designed for maximum reliability, durability, flexibility, accuracy and ease of operation to boost your productivity levels regardless of size or capacity. In addition, our new generation of vertical machines are automation-ready and built with green technology in mind.

Double Column Vertical Machining

Double column vertical machining centers use a bridge-type construction which can be well suited to the machining of components where extended axes travels are required. Mazak’s range of double column machining centers provide high levels of rigidity and precision over extended periods of operation to deliver superior heavy-duty cutting performance for a wide variety of industries.

Example series: FJV

Vertical Travelling Column Machining

Vertical travelling column milling machines enable a wide variety of components to be machined whilst workpieces remain static thanks to a fixed table design. Mazak’s high-rigidity vertical travelling column machining centers are designed to deliver superior cutting performance whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy and repeatability. Their generous working envelopes are ideally suited to the machining of larger parts common to automotive, defence, aerospace, energy and construction industries.

With a generous working envelope, a large variety of available axes configurations and optional pendulum machining capability, Mazak's vertical travelling column range is ideally suited to a wide variety of challenging applications.

Example series: VTC, SVC

C-Frame Vertical Machining

Vertical Machining Centers with C-frame construction offer 3 & 4 axes machining capability using a travelling table and vertical spindle. Mazak’s range of C-frame vertical machining centers are designed with cast iron construction and an A-frame supported column to offer superior accuracy and rigidity. Available in a range of generous table sizes, Mazak’s VCN and VCE series deliver high-performance machining results and superior productivity for a wide range of industries and applications.

Example series: VCN, VCE

5-Face Double Column Machining

5-face double column machining centers use a bridge type construction in conjunction with horizontal and vertical spindle configurations to produce prismatic components where machining is required on up to 5 faces. Mazak’s extensive range of 5-face double column machining centers are designed to provide spacious working envelopes and superior cutting performance for industries such as machinery, construction, aerospace and die & mold.

Example series: FJV, FJW

Heavy Duty Vertical Machining

Mazak’s MTV series is specifically designed to offer high-rigidity heavy-duty vertical machining. The high-torque #50 taper spindle motor delivers unsurpassed machining performance over a wide variety of production requirements, whilst the unique column feed construction provides outstanding versatility, exceptional accessibility and table load capacity.

Compact Vertical Machining

With their space-saving axes configurations and minimum floor space requirement, Mazak’s compact, high-performance machining centers are ideally suited to smaller components with high-volume applications. High-speed BT-30 spindles and fast rapid traverse rates offer outstanding high-performance lightweight machining.

Example series: UNVC-PRIMOS
